Wild Orchids of Calgary: An urgent, field excursion into a secret Calgary forest.
Available this week only
Join Milena Vásquez for an urgent, private forest walk to discover three, or if we are lucky, four hidden native orchid species before they vanish.
A window that closes in days.
Right now, hidden inside a quiet forest just outside Calgary, a miracle is happening. Four distinct species of rare, native wild orchids have just woken up and are in full bloom. I found them just days ago—and because wild orchids vanish as quickly as they appear, this private experience is strictly available this week and this weekend only.
I am keeping this pristine location a complete secret to protect the habitat, but I am opening up one single spot (for a solo explorer or two close friends) to join me for an exclusive guided field day.
The Journey
Together, we will escape the city and step into a beautiful, lush forest teaming with plant life and birdsong. As we walk, I will share the fascinating legacy of my father, Roberto Vasquez—a lifelong orchidologist—and we will dive into deep, relaxed conversations about art, ecology, and the interconnectedness of nature.
Optional Macro Photography: If you love taking photos, I will gladly share my personal tips and techniques for capturing the breathtaking, intricate details of tiny forest flora.
The Tea Ritual: We will take a restful pause in the woods to enjoy wild-harvested, completely safe-to-drink forest tea (guaranteed Lily of the Valley free!) alongside a spread of delicious snacks.
The Details & Logistics:
When: Today through this Sunday maximum. Once the blooms fade, this offering disappears.
Duration: A half-day immersion (approx. 3–4 hours of slow, gentle walking and observing).
Transportation Included: To protect the secret location, I will gladly pick you up from your home in Calgary, drive us to the forest, and safely bring you home afterward. (If you prefer to drive yourself, we can coordinate a secret meeting point!).
Pacing: This is a slow, respectful, low-impact walk focused on observing, not a strenuous hike. Anyone with a curious spirit is welcome.
